Whether you are exclusively pumping or pumping at work, there are a few things that will make pumping easier and a better experience. I am not an expert, just a mama who has pumped to build a supply and while working. These are some of my favorite must have breast pumping items.

Breast Pump
A good pump is obviously an important thing to have. Having a good pump will help with milk production and the amount you pump. I have the Medela Pump in Style pump. It is easy to learn the settings and use. This was a pump I was able to get 100% free through insurance.
Water and Snacks
Water and eating enough calories is extremely important for milk production. Every time I sit down to nurse I get extremely thirsty, so I always make sure to have a bottle of water when I pump too. Eating a good snack while pumping is a great way to get in a few extra calories for the day also.
Hands-free pumping bra
A pumping bra is nice to have to hold the pump in place and free up your hands. When I pumped at work, a pumping bra allowed me to answer a few emails during that time instead of holding the pump in place. This is definitely a must for comfort.
Plastic Bag/ Wet Bag
Instead of washing your pump pieces after you pump each time, you can throw them in a bag and put them in the refrigerator until next time. This is a great way to save time and is so much easier than washing between each pumping session. I use this wet bag because it is reusable and opaque so nobody can see the pump parts if you are using a shared refrigerator.

Towel or burp cloth
Pack a small towel or burp cloth to clean up any mess that may happen. Before I put the pump pieces into the refrigerator for next time, I give my pieces a quick wipe down too.
Pumping Bag
It doesn’t have to be a bag specifically designed for a breast pump, but having a bag for all of your accessories is a must. I use a small backpack that makes it easy to carry everything back and forth to work.

Cooler Bag
If you are pumping at work, a bottle bag or lunchbox is a great way to transport the milk home after work.
Nipple Cream
Pumping can be irritating. Cream can be used after pumping to help if you are so. Some creams can even be used as a lubricant while pumping.
Medela Storage Bottles
The Medela storage bottles are great to store milk in after you pump. If you are using a Medela pump, these bottles fit right on the pump. Having extras makes it so easy to store milk in the refrigerator if you plan to use it soon. They have measurements on the side that let you know exactly how much you pumped.

Milk Storage Bags
The Medela Milk Storage Bags are perfect for freezing milk to save for later. They are easy to fill and have a strong zip closure. There is a space to write the date and amount at the top. If you lay it down in the freezer, the milk will freeze flat and will be easier to store in the freezer and to thaw out later.
